  • It will look nice on my bookshelf beside my Complete Far Side, but I'm equally excited about this: Hank Ketcham's Complete Dennis the Menace 1951-1952 (while the writing can't be compared to Calvin & Hobbes, you can't beat Hank Ketcham's drawings).

Just curious... Do you guys get permission to use others art on this site or do you just snag it off the internet? Bill Watterson was pretty big on copyrights. Shouldn't you ask out of respect?

  • Are you sure your shelf will be able to withstand the pressure? My copy of the Complete Far Side is still lying on the floor making a dent in the carpet.
  • Awesome! Whatever happened to Mr. Watereson? Is he illustrating at all? I miss him so...but this collection will make it almost alright...for a while.
  • Amazon's selling it for 2/3 the list price? That's quite cool. Considering most of the only reading I've EVER done (especially as a younger kid) is solely authored by Bill Watterson, this is definitely the anthology of all anthologies for me. Props to Drawn! for bringing this to our collective attention.
  • INCREDIBLE!

i still long for bill watterson's work. i wish he would create new works in book format!

  • Craig,
We make no claims to the copyright of work we post, and with a direct link to the original artists' work (and in this case, a direct link to a place to buy the book in question) I think what we're doing more than classifies as 'fair use' and promotion of whatever work we're posting -- it's free advertising!

The minute we start selling t-shirts with Calvin peeing on the Boing Boing logo, then you can start worrying.
  • YAY! Finally a book with EVERYTHING! This is all I need to be happy for the rest of my life. BEST COMIC EVER! And I love him for never selling out and letting people make little toys and mugs and crap. He could of been even more rich than he already is, but he has his standards. I love that.

Calvin and Hobbes is the best comic ever ! I remembered the time in school when I used to flip through pages of my dad's newspapers just to read the day's Calvin and Hobbes. I hope I can afford to buy the complete comics :)
  • I'd never heard of Calvin and Hobbes... but I now feel a purchase coming on!
  • Me Me Me
Thank you for the heads-up, it gives me time to save up (oh wait, it's coming out just in time for my birthday....)
  • You've never heard of Calvin and Hobbes?! You're in for a treat!
  • Already Pre-Ordered.
    ;]
  • I will pay $20 for a t-shirt of Calvin peeing on the Boing Boing logo.
  • Oh man. Calvin and Hobbes was the sweetness during my lullsome, solitary, summers. Waterson lives in the southwest somewhere and spends his time painting and avoiding the public. I acquired much of my awkward vocabulary reading his books as a child.
  • every once in a while i make someone read this excellent essay/speech by watterson.

calvin and hobbes defined so many parts of my life when i was a little kid, i'm going to get this. i bet the library would take all of my old individaul calvin and hobbes books too.
  • Watterson lives in a small Ohio Town.

Is this going to be set up like Far Side was?
  • I wonder if there will be anything extra included in the front of the book? In the past when Watterson has made a collections book, he would add a full color multi page poem.

  • Tim
I just saw Calvin and Hobbes in the Sunday Denver Post comics. Are they reprinting old strips, or has he started drawing again? I thought I would hear in advance, but Opus showed up out of the blue, so I have my hopes up.

I will but the book, and am now going to start going through all the books of his I have--I think I may be missing one or two-- and see if I can find the strip that was in the paper today.
  • Junger
Tim, They're just reprinting old stuff, they started doing it over here in New England too, and I've recognized every one thus far.

Charlie, you've *never* heard of Calvin and Hobbes? You been living under a rock or what?
  • Dominique
