Sfar Out!

sfar2Probably best known to english readers as the creator of the awesome (and recently animated) Petit Vampire, this guy Johann Sfar is more prolific than a rabbit on fertility drugs. His style is loose and prone to metamorposis, a fun, vibrant line skipping between sweet kids art and sketchy adult work. He’s one of those ‘L’Association’ guys, having done great personal work with them like Harmonica and Le Petit Monde du Golem. I just love his Albums about the real life inspiration for Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes… his one-time medical instructor (and forensics pioneer) Professor Bell. Most of this hasn’t been translated yet, I’m afraid. Not even his popular kids strip Sardine de L’Espace, which I first discovered in ‘Maximum’ in 1998. If your French is good, there’s an interview here. And if you can’t read French, there’s still a mountain of eye candy to chew through at his site… just follow the arrows to see more…
