Savage Chickens

Do you like chickens? And low-fi doodles on Post-It Notes? Then you’re going to love Savage Chickens. My personal favourite? Terminator Theatre.

  • I love it. Interesting idea and the chickens are well drawn and funny. :)
  • Aaron
    Meh. Not my thing.

Feels like Dilbert, where the drawings themselves don't add anything to the writing. In fact, you could take the text of these on their own to have the jokes work.

I looked at 5 randomly and they all had the same 2 chickens with the same expressions on their faces, just different word balloons.

I like the concept, but it could use a bit more originality (the style is too generic).
  • Anyone familiar with Matt Groening's "Life in Hell" (The Simpsons's creator alter ego), specially his Akbar & Jeff strips, will get a chuckle out of this. I wonder if LIH is one of Mr. Savage's influences (probably...)

I don't know nothin to really squak about - kind of low in my ratings,a poultry sum really.
  • isisish
    Not funny?

What's wrong with me, then? I was howling.

Maybe he can't draw, but he can sure write.
  • JohnR
Guys... really? That was funny. Not well drawn? C'mon it's chickens on post-it notes! What are you expecting Rembrandt?

I like the whole concept of the handmade crap post-it doodle combined with the "high tech" world of the web. The fact that there is an RSS feed for these things drives the point home even further.

Funny stuff - I forwarded the link to my wife, and she was crying from laughing so hard.

Life must be a drag when one can't find the humor in something as simple as this.
  • I find these good fun as well.
  • Joe
ummm, i bet the people that say these things are funny and good, are the type of people that see someone splash paint on a canvas and say its art

you guys make me sick, funny if a 5 year old did these drawings
    but jeez
  • Geoff
Let me guess Joe, your american and under twenty, male I could go on. When you've grown up a bit and got a good ironic sense of humour or even a sense of humour at all, you might get it. But if my other guesses were correct that ain't gonna happen :o)

This stuff is fantastic, love it.
  • Gage
I find a few of them funny. But after a while it wears on me. I don't think it's anything special comparred to some of the other comics out there.
  • Bleedingly Hilarious!!
  • I recently did a tribute cartoon to Savage Chickens. The first of which is http://bullsblogspot.blogspot.com/2005/06/phone-home.html.
The others can be seen at http://bullsblogspot.blogspot.com.
    Happy Clucking!

Comparing this to Ziggy, but 1 panel, both straight to the point, no ziggy doesnt make me roll all over the floor, and neither does this... but this is so crappy and i really enjoy reading ziggy,

the drawing is terrible, there is nothing to back up the jokes besides 2 chickens drawn over and over same way, same expression. If you take all the rules about comics and throw it way, what are you left with? THIS!

I'd rather read Ziggy, thank you very much

and please... dont try to be mr. psychology, you just putting the profession to shame because you took what? 1 class in college?
  • Bill
Wow! Such critics. If you don't get them, fine, that's your problem. But I don't see you referring us to YOUR superior cartoons and jokes. You're like the jealous sibling trying for attention from Mommy with your bad behavior. This guy's good and you just won't admit it 'cause you think that somehow diminishes you. Sorry, it doesn't but you'll have to get over your own problems.
  • Joe
your gay if you think this is funny and well drawn. yes it might put a smile on your face, but to say its hilarious just puts shame on your family because you are a big disgrace to the world!
  • Rope
Hey moron,,,it' s 'you're not 'your' gay if you think this is funny'. And no, finding humor is somethings and not others does not make you gay (well, it made you gay) but no one else.

Take the chickens for what they are--simple and good fun.
  • Ryanu
Savage Chickens say the best things ever! (Say What, say what?)

But seriously Savage Chickens are hysterical, like Dilbert crossed with the Farside!
  • Doug
Hope Joe's done, now. I'm not gay (as if sexual preference would matter). I don't see a need for any psychological analysis of Mr. Savage or his readers, either. I didn't pay much attention in Psych 101. You like the chickens or you don't. If you don't, move on.
I have to agree with Ryanu. The chickens have an intellectual feel comparable to Dilbert and Farside. Not just anyone will appreciate them. I had commented to Mr. Savage that his chickens are the best thing I'd seen since Farside. Now I know I'm not alone in that thinking.
Contrasting the intellect, is the ingeniously simple drawing and (gotta love) the post-its...and who'd have expected abstract philosophy from chickens.
    Keep 'em coming, Dave.
Oh...and speaking of abstract...Joe, I don't understand "splash" paintings either.

The CHICKENS RULE ALL! ALL HAIL THE CHICKENS!
  • Murr
When I was but a wee lad, the "Readers Digest" joke sections busted me up and the "Life's Like That" anecdotal sections were only feebly funny. As each year of life experience was crammed into my brain, my opinion flipped 180 degrees around.

"Savage Chickens" is far and away funnier than anything usually found leafing thru "Readers Digest" in a waiting room. I only bring the comparison up to suggest appreciating the brilliant wit of the Chickens might require a... "black belt" in life experience. They're great!
