After having a look for some material on the 'Silver Spider' precursor to Spider Man I found <a href="http://www.simoncomics.com/bigsil.htm" rel="nofollow">this</a> site. I googled it for a while and couldn't find a better image, but you get the idea. The site credits the Silver Spider to Joe Simon, but I recently read in Stan Lee's semi-biography that it was Kirbys idea.
