The Copper process

Here’s a real treat. Kazu Kibuishi has posted a detailed tutorial on how he creates one of his gorgeous Copper comics. He takes us through the entire process from rough sketches to the final touches in Photoshop. Go check it out!

  • Wow and wow, I have the Flight anthologies. They are out of this world, to see the process of his work is really a pleasure. Thank you.

That's it! I'm going back to comics!
This was very inspiring... what a nice guy, taking the time to explain the whole process!
  • Fantastic! I love Copper!
  • This was very impressive.

    Inspiring even.

This post is the reason I love Drawn! so much.

This is so wonderful, I was really surprised because a couple of years ago I drew a comic using the same exact materials, almost to a 'T'... Seeing another artist's process is such a treat when you can say, "Hey, I do that too! I can be cool like him!" :)
  • VERY cool.

Brilliant. I really dig the "copper is an exercise in restraint" quote. Coloring on only a few photoshop layers forces him to almost work like a classic printmaker, only digital. They're like silkscreens.
  • Is the link to the copper process how-to dead? I can't seem to get there from here.
  • awesome.
  • really awesome link! thanks for constantly updating this totaly awesome website. i come here almost everyday if i have free time.
