Computer Generated Animated Water

cg water

Some of the most realistic looking CG water yet. The video was created by Ron Fedkiw, Assistant Professor at Stanford Computer Science, whose research areas include computational fluid dynamics and computer graphics.

Warning: This animation may make you thirsty.

That’s pretty awesome. Someone on there mentioned that adding bubbles would have made it even better. That’s definitely true. Also, if the stream of water wasn’t so stationary. But, wow, yeah, that’s good stuff.

Very cool, and the ripped site (http://graphics.stanford.edu/~fedkiw/) has ‘a lot’ of animations. Not that Im into 3D much but its nice to see where a the technical contributions come from.

to be honest i thought the liquid was too thick to be water

    Hey All at Drawn!,

This is unrelated to the current post. Apologies. Just noticed you got a write-up on Designers Who Blog.com. So congrats!

a friend of mine who works at australia’s CSIRO in the fluid dynamics department recommended checking out this site instead. They’re his biggest competitors apparently. this stuff boggles the mind….

it used to be so easy to tell the difference between fake water and the real stuff…… we’re rooted now.

that sucked so bad i could smell it. for reals, get some respect for real digital art. give props to the good sh$t and blow off the THICKly caked on garbage like this poorly animated cr-iiiiiz-Ap!

  10. Lone says:

Real digital art? This kind of stuff is research, its what allows other people to develop digital art in the form of animation like Pixar or any other development company does. :\ Cheese.

  11. d says:

keep the blinders on. t he anim companies can do this in thier sleep. this is supposed to be some sort of artistis SOFTWARE tirumph and IT AINT !!! eat a dick kid!

  12. Ward says:

d– totally uncalled for. You might want to think ahead about repsonding to someone who disagrees with you.

For the record, you both are right. The big companies do have guys that create their own programs and algorithms for water and other natural elements, but there are many schools and institutions that do that sort of thing as well.

  13. Someone Who Dislikes Trolls says:

I agree. Trolling and generally being agressive and insulting is disrespectful to the forum, and deryke, you having a blog of your own should know better. This is really poor advertising for you. It doesn’t impress upon anyone that you possess knowledge or personality worthy of our time or consideration. Quite the opposite. I hope that you can resolve whatever personal issues are causing you to lash out at others. My advice: Seek help.

  14. d says:

ward – shut it. i was at least half right (by your own admission) so i think YOU ought to think ahead.

  15. “shut it”. Classy rebuttal, hombré. Are you this princely with everyone who disagrees with you? Now I suppose you’ll call me a “pussy” or hit me with some other witty retort for saying something.

  16. Ward says:

d– by my own admission you were correct ONLY in the fact about companies like Pixar doing their own research and development on things like water, etc. But you are still incredibly wrong in your handling of this situation. Childish retorts like “cut it,” “eat a dick,” and the sort ain’t doing you a bit of good here.

    Amazing Crochet…

This is art and craft of exceptional quality. Found via Drawn I may be wrong, but I suspect that a lot of this is actually machine knit fabric, cut and sewn into shape and other pieces look like they……
