Sketch Swap

Sketch Swap is a fun little online toy that allows you to draw a sketch, and submit it to get someone else’s sketch in return. This little octopus alien fella is what I got.

(thanks, Mr. Blank)

I love drawing with my mouse!
I drew a duck and I got a Hello Kitty back, which seems an okay swap.
  • nice site and fun idea
for only 10 minutes though because then i dont want to draw anymore and I only want to see the drawings others did
  • Lone
Yeah the ability to see other sketches without having to draw one would have been nice.

Oh, and I got a Homestar Runner 'Strong Mad' for one of mine :) Ill pretend it came from someone on the site ;)

GREAT! I drew cube worshipers and got a mutant Pac Man.

How can I save the sketches I get?
  • I drew a man yawning and got... confetti? amoebas? popcorn?

    Fair enough.
  • Haw! I drew one at work, and it came back to me in return when I got home!

  • I drew for half an hour and don't remember anything anymore.
Going back to work now :)

Just hit a print screen, and then copy your sketches, or the sketches you get to an image editing program, like photoshop or paint.

    I drew a cellphone and got back ... a cellphone ...
  • I gave SketchSwap a couple of tries:

    http://www.anigami.com/jimwich/jimwich_archives...

The site's Terms of Service say that they check out all the submissions, and it might be a more compelling site if they started compliing a gallery of some of the interesting submissions.

As it is, other than being sort of fun (for awhile) to draw there, I sort of lost interest. You just know there are some interesting drawings there, but you can only see random ones, and it's too easy for people to submit lame drawings. The dynamic is such that if you want to see a lot of drawings, you need to submit a lot, so the dynamic's skewed toward not spending much time on the drawing.

But they say they're planning on evolving the site, so I'll check back. The basic idea is cool!
  • Wow, the URL to my SketchSwap drawings (and what I got in return) got garbled. Maybe because th URL was long.

Here's the TinyURL version to the drawings:

  • Yowza! My buddy Mark posted a link to my sketches on Boing Boing and before long I received a wonderful email from SketchSwap co-founder Philipp Lenssen, sending me 15 excellent drawings that they've received from OVER 50,000 submissions in just their first week up!

    Cool! Check these out:

Philipp said that they're going to begin screening to choose better drawngs to send back out. These show that they're getting some excellent ones! I think there needs to be a gallery of interesting ones. It's a challenge to draw in such a constrained manner, so it's amazing to see how excellent some of these look.

I did a lot of drawing and spent way to much time on, not saying my drawnings were cool but what i got back was a mainly quickly drawn scribble
  • another website with the sketch concept, by the fabulous yongfook:

    http://www.sketchplanet.com/

this came out quite a while ago ... it doesn't involve swapping, so you can see galleries of submissions. anyone can submit sketches (with registration).

everything from penises to portraits at your fingertips...

Drew a monkey & and got a bunny with wings back, ok i guess.

My fav online drawing site though is:

    http://www.ratemydoodle.com/

its so cool, you can actually doodle on other people's drawings. Has other things like battle arena and galleries, lotsa fun.
  • It's very nice!

I was disappointed when I discovered that they have to approve the drawings first... I can understand why, but at the same time I really liked the idea that I would be literally swapping with the person whose drawing I saw, because then I'd have some idea of the aesthetic of the person I was swapping with and whether they'd appreciate mine.
  • Je me suis appliqué, mais j'ai reçu des trucs assez nuls :-(
