Marina Bychkova

marinaNext on my agenda: Dolls with nipples! Don’t worry, they’re not all naked, but 23-year-old doll-maker Marina Bychkova originally hails from Siberia, a land where I’m pretty sure everyone is always naked and totally not uptight about it! Hurray!

I found this interview with Marina at Pixelsurgeon.com, then went over to her site to see more of her amazingly detailed porcelain and polymer clay dolls (her site behaves oddly in Safari: you have to click and hold down on the thumbnails to keep the full size image visible; it works better in Firefox). And more coolness: She lives right here in Vancouver! It even turns out that she was showing her work at the Community Center down the street from me just three years ago, and I TOTALLY MISSED IT. I would have loved to see her work up close.

    ewwwwww

This stuff is pretty amazing and detailed. I absolutely loved a few of her watercolors, some of them reminded me of medieval illuminations. I like how intensely personal her website is, giving us glimpses into her inner creative life. Thanks for the discovery.
  • And she's so young! Fascinating work.
  • Фантастика!Великолепная работа!У меня просто нет слов!:О)
  • Great work! Nice colors!
  • the headresses and accesories on the dolls esp the snow maiden doll are fascinating:)
  • Actually, Luc, if you're in Vancouver you CAN go see her work up-close. She has 2 dolls in the Emily Carr Grad Show -- on now until May 22nd. The dolls there are Sleeping Beauty and Prince Charming -- beautiful but very creepy and eerie.

    SHE IS TOOOOO AWESOME.

SWEET! Thanks Siobhan! I've been so swamped with work and contractor woes lately, I totally forgot about the Emily Carr Grad Show. I have till this weekend! Better hurry!
  • the dolls are amazing, if a bit... whatever, they're very impressive. and i'm certainly glad she took to doll-making instead of painting. because good grief, did you see those painting? eesh.
  • Marina is my hero.
    her work is incredible.
  • luc, actually, you should just get her email from whatever gallery she's shown at and email her asking for a studio visit.
  • Chad
her email is on her site, marina@enchanteddoll.com
  • Охуенные работы, респект !
  • I'd say it as Cultural interview.
