Allen Lund

We give flash-based websites a hard time here, and usually with good reason, but Allen Lund’s site has a beautiful, smooth, and fast flash navigation that is perhaps the best use of the medium for an artist’s portfolio I’ve seen. The work itself, while nice enough as landscapes go, isn’t really my cup of tea unfortunately — but it just goes to show how much presentation counts!

The paintings are as good as the website is bad. Truly great paintings.
My eyes are watering from those blurred backgrounds!

Yes it is rich and smooth and filling, it behaves like a Flickr panel, I don't like to wait for the transistions each time to see an image though.. They are small in file size and flash can snap them on-- the form (process) overtakes the function here. BUT well done.

Nice site except for the full screen thing. In my book taking the user out of the normal browsing environment is a definite no-no. Personally I normally browse sites alongside several other tasks (checking mail, doing the day job) so would appreciate the option of having a non-full screen option.

Especially seeing, as Lone pointed out, none of the pictures actually justify taking over my whole monitor.

The zoom function is cutsey but the painting images are just too small. Considering they went for full-screen and used only 10-15% of the space for the full size images themselves really doesnt justify the zoom. :P Nice site though otherwise :)

I agree completely. Great website, good artwork, just not my thing.
