Scott McCloud’s Making Comics

Making Comics: Storytelling Secrets of Comics, Manga and Graphic Novels, the third book in Scott McCloud’s in-depth trilogy of comics education has begun to hit stores. I picked up my copy earlier today and am already loving it. There’s something about these books that is so exciting to me. He reveals so much potential and magic in the medium, that I find myself suddenly torn between actually finishing the book and just throwing it down to go draw!

To celebrate the release, Scott and his family have embarked on a massive 50-state tour (and parts of Canada, ahem). In addition to the signings, appearances, and seminars the entire family is blogging the trip! So follow along!

  • Excitement (at kissing the hand of someone you worship) aside, is this book any good? I was just as excited at his second book but didn't feel it had the quality of the first. Please: a measured non-worshipping review please.
  • yeah, it's pretty wonderful. much better than REINVENTING COMICS. an awesome companion to UNDERSTANDING.

    I just snatched up a copy today and so far I like it. It's a lot like his other books. If you liked them, you'll like this.

    I'm excited about the tour. I had no idea the book or the tour existed until I saw this post. I'm going to see if I can get him to stop by my college in 07.

    I've read Understanding Comics (btw, it's available in libraries in Singapore) and I'm sad that his tour is just limited to the US!
