Tree art

You know, we may lavish a lot of praise on humans around here, but you have to admit, this willow tree is getting a gorgeous line with those technical pens. Respect to our arboreal cousins!

Using only the wind as her guide, this tree’s drawings are part of an elaborate art project supervised by Tim Knowles. Ignore all the haughty high art nonsense and check out the cool pictures here.

Update: No sooner had I posted, than Kevin writes to inform us of a much more diabolical non-human art project involving rat-neurons in petri dishes. The BBC elaborates:

The project represents the team’s effort to create a semi-living entity that learns like the living brains in people and animals do, adapting and expressing itself through art.

A petri culture of rat neurons drew this. Not bad!

  • It's bad enough there is so much competition already from humans. The monkeys also paint and elephants too. Now the plant world wants a bit of the action.
  • Trees can be "post-modern" too!
  • jung would be proud.
  • Pffft. Willows are posers. Everyone knows that the softwoods are kings of the plant art community.
