Paprika

Paprika

I will be impatiently counting the days till May 25th, when Satoshi Kon’s latest film, Paprika, will be released. I don’t know how I’ll wait that long. Having just watched the trailers, it’s all I can think of now.

Watch the trailer here, and the teaser and other goodies here. You’ll find yourself watching these all at LEAST three or four times.

When you’ve picked your jaw up off the floor and your heartbeat has calmed, you may have that amazing soundtrack running in your head. No problem. Head over to composer Susumu Hirasawa’s website where he graciously offers some of his work as free downloads, including Paprika’s theme, “The girl in Byakkoya.”

Go now.

I am SO excited for this!! Milennium Actress is one of my faves -- loved Susumu Hirasawa's music in that film, delighted to see a link to his music here. Thanks for the post! Can't wait for Paprika!!
  • This is really lovely work -- I don't doubt that it'll be a beautiful movie. But I also don't doubt that it'll be a BO disappointment in the US. IMDB says it's only opening on 130 screens, and judging from how past anime films have performed in North America, that number will dwindle fast. I wish audiences liked this stuff ... but they barely even know it exists.
  • Comedy gold. Paprika!!
  • Paranoia Agent was amazing. This looks just as good.

Thanks for sharing, otherwise I would have never heard of it.
  • I'm totally stoked to see this.
  • I saw this movie at this years International Film Festival Rotterdam a month ago.
And it was great!! so if you are thinking of seeing it you should!
  • Ha! Immediately recognizable as the paranoia agent artist. I'll have to check this out.
  • Eagerly awaiting this one myself .

Enjoyed Millenium Actress and Perfect Blue , so I'm confident he's on a roll.
  • Millenium Actress...Perfect Blue...Tokyo Godfathers...Paranoia Agent...and now Paprika! SATOSHI KON, LET ME HAVE YOUR BABIES D:
  • wow thanks for sharing these.. i knew from the images that this was from the same guys who did paranoia agent and tokyo godfathers..
can't wait to see paprika now..
    jaw still dropping! :)
  • I just saw it 2 days ago on the animation festival here in Belgium, and it's truly a masterpeice, the story as much as the art work. This is a must see, and since it will probably not be in the cinemas again here in Belgium, I can't wait until they release the dvd.
  • Not surprised there's a dozen comments saying the same thing!! Can't wait!

    "Bad public movie atom".

You guys realize the problem of distributing video on the 'net has been solved, right? In Apple World video may still be some kind of pray-for-success rocket science operation, but in the real world, nine-year-olds are posting videos on YouTube and it works perfectly every time.

    Simply amazing.

After you see the movie, you'll be returning to the theater "all at LEAST three or four times". I guarantee it.

After seeing it just once, last year at a NY festival, I already want to see it again. Heck, I wanted to see it a second and third time, just moments after it ended.

Kon's MILLENNIUM ACTRESS rates very highly with me. But this film, PAPRIKA, is a visual smörgåsbord that will have your eyes darting all over the place, trying to get their fill.

And the music is great. Buy the soundtrack.
  • The highest praise is that my wife, who can't sit through anime, enjoyed this film and I didn't have to ask her to stay till the end.

    I loved it.
