Madame Tutli-Putli
Some friends at the National Film Board (where I work part of the week) alerted me to this trailer from the upcoming animated film, Tutli Putli. Apparently, this 17 minute piece has been five years in the making and – aesthetically, at the very least – it’s paid off. The art direction looks stunning.
The film is produced by the NFB and animated by the folks from Clyde Henry – a Montreal based animation/illustration house which specializes in the creepy and surreal. According to this animation blog, they are also working on an adaptation of Chester Brown’s comic, Ed the Happy Clown. Seems like a good match.
Check out more clips and interviews with the film-makers at the NFB’s official Tutli Putli site.

UPDATE: I just watched a screener of the film and – yup – it’s fantastic. Very funny, slightly creepy and ornately detailed; a real labour of love and a wonderful film.
