Marty Gordon

I’m completely loving these strange collage pieces by artist Marty Gordon. His entire artist’s statement is worth quoting here, since it describes a real passion for his work and emphasizes the importance of self-discovery and trying different media:

For as long as I can remember I have been an artist. As a boy, I drew monsters and superheroes. As a teenager, I dreamed of a career as a comic book artist. As a college student, my sensibilities shifted to the fine arts. After college, I struggled to maintain my artistic pursuits. For the next fifteen years I created very little art. In the spring of 2004, I met my wife. She is also an artist. We challenged one another to start making art again. With little space available for us to work in, she introduced me to collage. Something clicked in both of us. We began producing art again. The passion I had felt in my younger days had returned to me. Art was fun again. For three years now I have been creating my weird little collages. I like to think of them as windows into another world, a world where art, truth, humor, tension, and candidness live together in vignettes of surreal commentary.
