Rod Filbrandt

Few artists are as capable as Rod Filbrandt when it comes to sifting out the most obvious nonsensical idiocy in today’s world, and slinging it back at us like the slap in the neck we all deserve.

Rod doesn’t mince words on his oft-updated blog Chowderhead Bazoo, whether he’s taking a swipe at the various archetypes that seem to overcrowd the sidewalks of our cities in his “The Bane of My Existence” series, lambasting Elvis Costello for selling the last of his soul in a recent Lexus ad, or waxing nostalgic at the demise of a local bar, Rod always hits the nail on the head.

Just don’t call him awesome.

These real life caricatures area nice. This idea sort of reminds me of a california artist named David(http://cartoondavid.blogspot.com/)

Though these observations make you giggle.. they also draw a fine line between one’s “observation” and ridicule.

Now, i know Rod means no harm(and i do related with most of what he says) but what would a person who identifies him/herself as one of these sketches think?

Or should we care? I don’t know.. i’m just throwing these things out there.

  2. Why so angry? Poor guy needs a hug!

That is the magic and illusion of Rod. Having known him for a few years now and counting him as a very good friend, he’s not an angry guy at all. He just calls a spade a spade.

And if we hesitated any time we wanted to make an “observation” because we were afraid that someone might perceive it as “ridicule” then there wouldn’t be much discussion worth listening to most of the time.

  4. I’ve been seeing his work at gigposters.com recently. So damn talented. Heh…”shiny ‘butterface’”. :D

Thanks for the extra link El Negro! Yeah, Rod’s posters are wonderful. Sadly, they’re hardly ever hanging anywhere here in Vancouver, but at least the folks in Calgary and Seattle get to see them. “Gunther” is my favourite.
