Joe Bluhm

martzcaricature.jpgThis hideous face is none other than yours truly. And I have caricature artist Joe Bluhm (blog) to thank. The absolute hit of this weekend’s Toronto Comic Arts Festival, Joe’s table was packed all weekend with floods of people eager to be immortalized on paper and willing to have their egos dashed into pieces.

Joe’s ability to not just capture likeness, but spirit and personality as well — all within 5-10 minutes — was nothing short of astounding. Joe was at the festival promoting his book REJECTS, a hilarious collection of retail caricature commissions that were rejected by patrons with tender egos.

Behind the cut: Joe takes on some of TCAF’s finest comic artists — thanks to Toronto caricaturist Sam Gorrie for the photos!

  • Damn...to say that dude is talented is an absolute understatement! I think it's hard to stand out in caricature sometimes, but Joe does it in spades. Wow.
  • I love caricatures. This makes me want to get mine done someday. I'll probably laugh for 30 minutes straight if it's even half as good as these.
  • Man, that's some incredible caricature-ing! Johnny, I think he pretty much nailed you, although I haven't seen you with your beard up close and personal yet. I love seeing the subjects with their caricatures -- so fascinating to see how these amazing artists do their thang.
