For those of you on the fence about Twitter, I know where you're coming from: When I first signed up for it over a year ago, I just sort of stared at it and though "Oh brother. What's this crap now?" and promptly forgot about it. But in the past few months, I've taken to it in earnest.

WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT CHARLIE BROWN?

Think of it as "chat-meets-blogging-meets-email" (it's referred to as micro-blogging). Or better yet, as Matt once suggested, think of it as your own virtual "office water-cooler." Ask your illustrator for tips on solving a problem in Photoshop; post a little brain fart; share some shortcut you learned using Illustrator; or whine about the weather. It's all good.

Basically, stuff that's not really substantial enough to post to one's own blog, is exactly the stuff that fits perfectly well on Twitter.

HOW DO YOU POST TO TWITTER?

You can post "tweets" from your mobile phone, use Twitter's web interface, or download a desktop app from this hefty list: http://twitter.pbwiki.com/Apps

Most Mac users use Twitterrific, Spaz, or Snitter (those last two require you to download Adobe's AIR platform, which, I find, is too resource-intensive for my old G4). Firefox users can add the Tweetbar plugin. PC users: the link above has lots for you too, but I'm not in-the-know about which is best.
