Frank Chimero’s United States
An idea so clever, I wish I had thought of it first. Designer/illustrator Frank Chimero has an ongoing series of illustrations reinterpreting the shapes of American states as other objects. The results are witty, elegant, and beautifully rendered.
This is a perfect example of why I think Frank is fantastic and why I’ve been a fan of his for a long time.
Don’t worry Johnny, I’ll be hitting up Canada once the US is done. (That is, if I have any steam left!)

Great idea and execution! California is truly wonderful.
My art teacher back in high school had us do a similar project (objects from familiar outlines). All I recall was that I chose the outline of the United States, and turned it into a side view of a George Washington looking guy. I need to dig that up and blog/Flickr it. It has always been one of my personal faves.
He’s a truly top shelf dude. His work puts a smile on my face.
