Garfield Minus Garfiled, Lasagna Cat

I thought this was old news, but since I’ve received about a half dozen emails about it today, I guess its popularity is on the rise — It’s Garfield Minus Garfield, a brilliantly surreal remixing of Jim Davis’s ubiquitous comic strip in which the monday-hating cat is removed from the strip entirely. In most cases (though the premise sometimes falls short) it becomes a more surreal, and much funnier strip.

Equally–if not more–bizarre is Lasagna Cat, in which select Garfield strips are re-enacted as if the feature was live-action sitcom (which, in turn, then become the subject of surreal music videos). Check it out:

  • I'm not sure which Lasagna Cat episode you have posted (my workplace has all streaming video locked down), but my favorite is the one that ends with the Bob James-penned theme to Taxi.
I thought I was gonna die laughing.
  • The lasagna cat videos are great.
  • Garfield minus Garfield is genius. A friend of mine and I used to rewrite the dialog in Calvin and Hobbes cartoons, but this is so much better and so much more naturally surreal.

The reason you must have got so many posts about it today is that it was mentioned on Penny Arcade

I think what makes this so great is that this is how "cat people" appear to "normal people."

    Funny... because its true...
