Arty Globe

The amount of detail in these fish-eye cityscapes from architect-turned-cartoonist Hartwig Braun is craaaazy.

Love them. Probably going to order prints for London, Paris and New York... then visit Berlin to justify adding it to my collection!

I particularly like that the New York globe with the twin towers is still available. The spate of movies erasing it right after the events of 9/11 is, in its own way, a slap in the face of New York, New Yorkers, and those who lost their lives that day, I feel. I understand creating a modified version with the empty space, but the one with the towers has more personality and character, and that's the one I'll get.
  • Thank you!

It was a dilemma for Hartwig (the artist) whether to do the version with the twin towers. But we both felt that they and what happened should be remembered and therefore Hartwig went ahead and created this version. You are right - to my opinion, with the towers, the image does have a different personality...

  • thank you for the feedback.

i also think that the image is somehow not fully complete without the twin towers, as in reality where you can feel that there is something missing in the Manhattan skyline.
i actually created the version without the wtc first. The towers were added after a visit to New York where i could see that they are still an important part of the city's identity and appear on many images. Americans don't seem to have a problem with it whereas some people in Europe see it as a sacrilege.

  • These panoramics are crazy! My eyes are bleeding at the amount of detail here!

    Isaac, Hartwig, thanks for replying!

I'm glad to see that's how you feel about the towers. Every September 11, we shoot beams of light into the sky that not only illuminate the space the towers would have occupied, but enlarge them and reach to the clouds. The Twin Towers remain an integral part of New York's identity, and I really feel the greatest tribute that could have been paid would have been to rebuild them with structural enhancements and commemorative spaces.

Thank you for having the courage to do this. I've shared the link to artyglobe with a few friends and they love it, too! I'll definitely be looking into prints soon.

    Cheers!
  • Hi Olusey

I personally agree with you and think as well that the best tribute would be to rebuild them better and stronger. I guess that in reality this is not likely to happen. :-(

Posters and prints should be available on the internet if you google "Arty Globe".

Thank you again for the warm words and feedback!

    All the best
