Darwyn Cooke at MegaCon
As requested, here’s a clip of Darwyn Cooke working on a drawing of Wonder Woman at MegaCon yesterday. Cooke is as nice as you’ve heard and was gracious enough to let me film him. And, since I know someone will ask, he uses Faber Castell PITT pens.
If you haven’t already, check out the animated adaptation of his epic miniseries New Frontier.
It was a great convention and I met lots of stellar artists including Joe Bluhm, Art Baltazar, Joel Carroll, and more. I’ll post more about them (and others) as the week progresses.

Nice. You can’t spell Darwyn without “Drawn!”
Nice. Not getting music here – maybe just my headphones?
Good one, Pat. And true!
Part Jack Kirby, part Bruce Timm, all-around genius artist! It’s great to see him in action.
I have all 6 issues of NEW FRONTIER (I may get the TPBs, but the individual covers are really cool), and I still think it’s the single best thing DC Comics has done in recent years. Sort of DC Comics meets THE INCREDIBLES! It’s a fresh escape from most of the other tasteless comics they’ve been doing.
And yes, I got the new animated version (2-Disc Edition) Saturday! If you’re familiar with the comic, the story is VERY truncated, but still remarkably faithful to its source material. I recommend it.
I read the comics in two paperback collections. Darwyn’s mastery of the DC universe and retro style charmed my cowl off. One day in Borders, I saw an amazing single volume, oversized collection of New Frontier. It was shrink wrapped so i couldn’t peek inside. I’m still dreaming of owning that but maybe i’ll check out these dvds, too.
