Totoro Forest Project

Check out this astounding gallery of paintings and prints from some of the greatest illustrators around the world. They’re all coming together for the Totoro Forest Project.

Totoro Forest Project is an international charity effort to preserve Sayama Forest, also known as Totoro Forest. This endangered sanctuary on the outskirts of Tokyo is where director Hayao Miyazaki got the inspiration for his much loved character “Totoro.” Over 200 top international artists from animation, illustration, and comics are donating artwork especially created for this cause.

On september 6th 2008 Pixar Animation Studios will be hosting an art auction event featuring all these fantastic pieces of art. All the proceeds of this fundraiser will benefit the Totoro Forest Foundation.

The project is being organized by Enrico Casarosa, Dice Tsutsumi, Ronnie Del Carmen, and Yukino Pang at Pixar. Here’s Enrico with more about the project.

  • This is great. I really love your illustration, Matt - it reminds me a bit of the fat yellow bird spirits in Spirited Away... but with a 1950s design sensibility.

    One of my favourites at Ghibli (like so many things they go down, don't they? How stupid was "Tales from Earthsea"? And I didn't like "Howl's Moving Castle" that much too).
