Guy Latulippe's Pursonalities

Meet my brother, Guy Latulippe. He’s a garment designer who has turned his full attention to designing some amazing bags, purses, and totes.

When a wise and talented friend remarked on the fact that bags transcend size and shape of body, a new course was set. Inspired by mythology, super-heroes, music, mechanical systems and the wonders of the natural world, my bags are artisanal pieces, that are part of a collection. The bags are to be considered part of the wearer’s ‘armor’ elevating one’s sense of confidence as one sets out into the world.

His attention to detail and passion for his craft have always impressed me. Whether it’s his Pursonalities handbags (above), his impressive messenger bags, or his take on Christmas stockings (below), his creations always turn heads.

Visit his Etsy shop, or stalk him on Facebook, and send him some internet love.

Luc Latulippe

Long story short: I started in animation back in 1990, and moved over to illustration ten years after that. I’ve since expanded into design projects, websites, logos, and even a little branding. I’ve won a few awards for my troubles, plus I’ve been featured in a few industry magazines like Layers and Applied Arts.

In 2003 I co-founded the Jupiter Project, a small collective of illustrators which includes well known talents such as Mark “Atomos” Pilon, Mia Hansen, and Rod Filbrandt.

I live in Vancouver, BC, with my partner Doug and our dog Una. I also invented Post-Its.

The Social Bird: more Twitter icons

burdy-tad-carpenter

You may remember Luc Latulippe’s Free Twitter Birds, and now even more illustrators are getting in on the act. Inspired Magazine has posted their Social Bird Icon Set featuring free Twitter bird icons from some great illustrators, including my favourite from Tad Carpenter, shown above.

And as luck would have it, Brian “Etherbrian” Brasher tweeted a link to Tweetle today, which is an icon set of the very same.

Twitter Blog Birds

Our own Luc Latulippe has created twenty-four Twitter bird illustrations that he’s offering up for free under a Creative Commons license for anyone who needs a Twitter illustration for their blog or website — including unflattened vector versions. Score!

Perhaps this will stop people from nicking Twitteriffic’s application icon under the assumption it’s Twitter’s official logo. The Icon Factory’s Gedeon Maheux explains how their app’s little blue bird gets around.

Illustration book plagiarizes dozens of artists

Yesterday illustrator Darren Di Lieto, who also runs the wonderful Little Chimp Society illustration site, discovered that the work of dozens of illustrators, along with the interviews he conducted with them for the LCS, have been unceremoniously plagiarized in a 350-page book being sold online for $100.

Our own Luc Latulippe is one of the illustrators whose interview and illustrations were ripped off, and he has posted a detailed write-up of the situation at his blog, and encourages everyone to spread the word about this, as the publisher and distributors of the book are elusive if not entirely impossible to contact.

Please also read Darren’s blog post about the situation where he also links to a gallery of photographs of the entire plagiarized book.

Please help spread the word!

Small business accounting solutions

lucmoney.jpgOur own Luc Latulippe has put together this informative and handy look at the various small business accounting solutions available to us freelancers — both stand-alone software applications and web-based services. When I needed a new invoicing system, Luc was the first person I went to, and his advice was invaluable. If you’re struggling with your own bookkeeping, it’s definitely worth a read.

Luc interviewed on LCSV4

Our own Luc Latulippe is the latest interview subject over at LCSV4. Read what Luc’s been up to, and what he’ll be up to next. Luc is a hard-working illustrator’s illustrator, so pay attention; I’d listen to anything he has to say.

Douglass Turner & Photofront

This is cool on two fronts.

One: Check out Douglass Turner’s (Lexington, MA) sweet computer illustrations (which you can also download as animated — though silent — podcasts). His work looks great whether it’s moving or not. You can also download his art onto your mobile.

Two: How Douglass’ portfolio is delivered is just as sweet. His Flickr account is fed through to his Photofront page. It’s a pretty cool way to display a portfolio of your work, depending on your needs. I created one to test it out, and it took less than two minutes. For an extra $10, you get the ad-free version. It’s pretty cool, but I must admit it’s a tad slow (as was a Wordpress plugin out there, which similarly, yet sluggishly, feeds your Flickr photos/illos into galleries on your blog), and having the thumbnails/navigation at the bottom of the page probably isn’t the best idea (you don’t realize it’s there till you scroll down), but overall, it’s still pretty cool.

Now, back to my hovel. Deadlines loom.

Jupiter Project show in Chicago – one week left

In Chicago I got a chance to visit the DVA Gallery to check out the Jupiter Project show featuring work by several expert illustrators (including our own Luc Latulippe). The show continues for just one more week, so be sure to check it out. You can see the pieces on the gallery’s website, but of course they look so much better in person!

Welcome, Luc!

Allow me to take this opportunity to officially welcome illustrator and all-around great guy Luc Latulippe to the Drawn! family. Luc is the latest addition to the star-studded roster of Drawn! contributors. Welcome, Luc!
