1st International Manga Award

chingJapan just awarded its first International Manga Award to Hong Kong artist Lee Chi Ching for his manga Sun Zi’s Tactics, on June 29th, 2007. I don’t follow manga so I’m hoping some Drawn! readers will post some info and reviews of this publication. I did, however, find a little bio on a pdf in Japanese and English that you can get to by following a link off the official Japanese government website:

“Lee Chi Ching began drawing comics and graphic novels in 1981. In 1992 he won an award for his watercolors at the Hong Kong Contemporary Art Biennial and had his work housed at the Hong Kong Museum of Art. He is the first cartoonist from Hong Kong to have his work published in Japan, and his forte is historical graphic novels. His major works include Romance of the Three Kingdoms and Water Margin.”
