50 Designers / 50 Costumes

Toronto’s Design Exchange is hosting a neat exhibit until April 19.

This collection of fifty contemporary film costumes allows the visitor to explore the range of artistry in costume design, from the rich elaborate suit of Cruela de Vil, to the simple silk damask gown of Frida. Each costume is accompanied by an original sketch, giving visitors insight into the creation of that costume.

Curated by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in partnership with the Costume Designers Guild.

Thanks for that! In another life, I’d love to be a costume designer for films… It’s great to see how this field has evolved over the decades. Too bad I’m not in Toronto:(

Perdiod outfits seem to be so much more compelling these days. Even todays big films seem to benefit from being placed several decades ago (eg King Kong Movie where the street scenes are of New York in the 30′s)
