Cartoonist Gordon McAlpin drew this comic version of a panel discussion he saw with Seth, Chris Ware, and Ivan Brunetti. It’s created in the style of Chris Ware’s comics, which is slightly ironic when it gets to the part about cartoonists developing their own style. And it fails slightly because it’s so obviously a quick-and-dirty digital approximation of how Ware would draw a strip and even with the precision of a computer, it’s sloppier than Ware’s hand-drawn masterpieces. But as Eric at the Fantagraphics blog said, his spare time is our gain, and it’s still a good read.
UPDATE: Not until it was pointed out to me did I realize how negative I sound above. Just wanted to make it clear that I really do like this comic because it really captures what it’s like to hear these guys speak in person, and my criticisms aren’t a dig at Gordon’s work, but rather an affirmation that there’s just something about the art of Chris Ware (and Seth and Brunetti) that just can’t be replicated.
