A.L.I.E.E.E.N.

Lewis Trondheim, one of my favourite-est cartoonists, has a new book out called A.L.I.E.E.E.N. that is a whole mess of fun and then some. Put out by the fine folks at First Second, the book is presented as if it were an actual alien comic book, complete with printing errors and creases. Chris Butcher has a great review of the book and details the huourous and surprisingly dark, violent and scatalogical (read: perfect for young boys) story. Chris neglects to point out that on Lewis Trondheim’s site, he has a fun online game based on the book in which the purpose is to harm the character by jumping onto spikes and open fires. Quel amusement!

    Lewis have done 2 cool illustrations for the french editor “les moutons electriques” (electric sheep editor), Fiction n°3.
    I’ve work with him for colorizing the cover with silver pantone.
    A great artist !!!

    I just bought my copy of A.L.I.E.E.E.N. (This book and the rest of the series are amazing!) Good to see the good stuff is coming back. Way to go First Second!

    I’ve been trying to translate this book all week, but it is not obvious to me. there are over 50 characters which is obviously a lot more than the 26 characters in the alphabet plus the ten numbers. I know that a simple line (l) means an exclamation, and the question mark is harder to describe; kind of a z with the tail connecting up with the letter again. anything other than that is a mystery to me. anyone else who decipheres more of this book would be greatly appreciated.
