Announcing GIMPshop

For years, the only reason I have resisted the full move to Linux has been my complete and utter dependence on that flagship application, Photoshop. Linux has always offered GIMP (the open-source alternative to PS), but, sadly its interface is sloppy and unintuitive . . . a far cry from the ergonomic beauty that Adobe offers.

But things might finally be changing. Developer, Scott Moscheller explains:

The Gimp’s menu structure and naming conventions had been a constant source of frustration for me [and everyone else] because I was so used to Photoshop. So, I did what any hardcore graphics geek would have done. I hacked GIMPshop together.

This version of GIMPshop has been developed for Mac OSX 10.3, but I sense a Linux version is not far off . . .

The weird thing is that I’ve been using Gimp for ages, so Photoshop’s interface aggravates me because I can’t find what I need half the time.

That’s the biggest problem with marketing software: you can bring out a better product, but people won’t move because their brains are trained to use existing programs that might have worse interfaces.

Cool — I tried Gimp a few years ago but was frustrated with it. I’ve downloaded this and will give it a shot.

Better than PS in my opinion and cheaper too. I like it better than The Gimp or Gimpshop.
