Are you scared?

Whether this image of a Charlie Brown gone wrong scares you or not, you’ll find it among the pop surrealism treasures at I’mScared.com — the home of artist Greg Simkins (be sure to check out the photos section for a look at his working space. It’s something I love seeing, and I recommend that all artists post pictures of their working environments on their sites!).

Interesting stuff. A whole lot of Freudian action going on there, boy! Long serpentine neck-stalks with small alien heads entering holes, and the like. ; )

As for the Charlie Brown thing, I’ll go out on my armchair critics’ limb and say i am unmoved by it. Somehow it strikes me as a mite unfair to appropriate Schulz’ familar characters in such an easy manner(the phrase shooting fish in a barrel comes to mind)…and it’s nothing new, either. Harsh and I apologise for that. But it’s just too easy. There’s already a much overdone subgenre of “My Little Pony/childhood iconography-with-a-nasty-gross-spin-on-it” for this to be “shocking” or certainly “scary” at this point. But I’m not going to cavil about the technical talent, which is definitely there.

Just saw his stuff at upper playground SF – great! If it wasn’t nearly sold out I would have bought a couple.
