Art of the Modern Movie Poster: International Postwar Style and Design

My new favourite book is a treat for both movie nerds and design nerds alike. Art of the Modern Movie Poster is a massive coffee table book comprising 60 years, 15 countries, and 1,500 examples of post-WWII film poster design.

It’s a brilliant look at the international histories of graphic design, illustration, and pop culture during the second half of the 20th century, and I know that I’m going to be taking this book off my shelf again and again for inspiration — just imagine, over 500 pages of movie posters, and not a single floating Photoshopped head!

It is a gorgeous and hefty book! If you live in NYC and like movie poster art, you should check out the companion film poster display at the Film Society of Lincoln Center that is up this month. There is also a book signing and reception for the book on 12/11:
