Back Issue Bingo– Major Rocket

espinosaAs he mentions, rather offhandedly, in his recent interview
, the acclaimed Frank Espinosa Rocketo comic has it’s roots in THIS nifty old book from 1993, with creative input from none other than Johnny Ortiz (notice the reference to ‘Rocketo’ in the Ortiz poster I used as an image back in March– who created what, here, anyway?). Rare!

I collect comics and draw them myself…I loved the combination of old comic art and modern toon additions….I want some of this art for my wall..

Thank you for your comments. I really appreciate it!
I would like to clarify to make sure that there is no misunderstanding on who created what. The drawing that is used on the post for the johnny ortiz blog that shows a rocketo headshot was done by me. That is the old rocketo, before I redesigned his head. Juan scan the head and created the dragon at the bottom and the poster design. At the time he and I were just playing with ideas for a rocketo poster, just having fun. The character of Major Rocket, aka Rocketo was created by myself. Thank you again and hope this clears it up.

I agree, Johnny! I cherish my copy, and the ol’ Captain Rescue/ Sudden Disaster Stoppers stuff, too. I didn’t mean to be a jerk for asking about the old credits in the Pigeon Press books… but everything back then was signed “Ortiz/Espinosa, Espinosa/Ortiz”, and I always wondered how the creative process was broken down for you guys. I’m a big fan of the both of you, whether you’re collaborating or not.. and I’m so glad to see you both back in the funnybook business. Cheers!
