Ben Balistreri’s Seaweed

Dreamworks storyboard artist and animation designer Ben Balistreri recently released a fun oversized (12″x15″) graphic novel Seaweed Book 1: A Cure for Mildew.

It’s always a joy reading something this large and colourful, and Balistreri’s animation background lends to the book’s cinematic layouts and superb character designs. The second half of the book is loaded with rough sketches, character designs, and all sorts of preliminary artwork, which I nearly enjoyed more than the story itself.

See more of Ben’s work at his blog, or order the book at SaltySugar.com

This is a fantastic book. I am so glad that I bought it when I still had a job. : )
The artwork is amazing. His drawings are solid, the characters are engaging, and his inking is terrific.
