I'll second Nathan's Frankenstein Makes a Sandwich plug. It's a beautifully illustrated book. And to top it all off, it's not just visually pleasing... it's written well!

It's disappointing that <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Frankenstein-Makes-Sandwich-Adam-Rex/dp/0152057668/sr=8-1/qid=1163820930/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/103-9965848-4640634?ie=UTF8&s=books" rel="nofollow">Frankenstein Makes a Sandwich</a> didn't make the list. Best children's book I've seen in years.

Also cool, The Society of Illustrators in NYC is "Celebrating the Fine Art of Children's Book Illustration" through November 22nd, if you get a chance to see this show it's really great, as I had the opportunity to hop over to the city and check it out yesterday :)

I saw "Mommy" at Costco and I can tell you that I was not impressed, the man has lost his touch. I know some of you will be upset, but let's face it there are many Dr. Seus books that just don't add up to some other ones. The same can be said about any other artist or writer. Maurice Sendak does not have to prove anything to anybody but I find it hard to read some of his other stuff, nothing will come close to WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE. A classic it is, but he is riding on his laurels all these years. There I said it. His only other book that comes close to his icon book is "Hector Protector and As I Went Over the Water: Two Nursery Rhymes"

Great List!

I dig Maurice Sendak's "Mommy" popup a ton, but I also like Daniel Davis' Caught Creatures. (Which isn't on the list)
