Build up your Immunity

allergy My new love is called Monster Allergy, the latest stroke of genius by Alessandro Barbucci and Barbera Canepa, the creators of W.I.T.C.H. (one of my daughters’ favourites), and the adult graphic novel Skydoll. The kind of work that makes you want to quit, know what I’m sayin’? Build up your immune system now, because it’s only a matter of time before this hits us over here! Click the page for a sample of the comic…monster

Thanks for putting this up. I picked up the first issue of Monster Allergy in Montreal a couple of years ago, and then just five months or so ago went back up there and found a copy of the Art of Skydoll which did indeed make me want to give up drawing. That urge thankfully faded.

Oh yeah, Monster Allergy is great. I got a copy of #2 from half.com and I love it. Now if only I could speak french. But the story telling is so masterfully done you can pretty much tell what people are saying just from their gestures. I checked this with a french guy I use to work with.

In fact, Monster Allergy is done by a studio so that instead of 1 issue by year (which is a regular rythm in France), there are several releases.

Fact is Barbucci and Canepa did the character design.

Monster Allergy has been published in Sweden for some time. I picked up the first couple of issues. It’s a nice litte magazine. The comics industry in Sweden is sadly very narrow. Distribution monopoly limits the number publishers. I do not remember if it still is out there. W.I.T.C.H is still popular here.

Barbucci and Caneppa alone they carry out the first number. Is the best.

Only the first Monster Allergy book was drawn by the duo Barbucci-Caneppa. After that, the book was given to other artists who respected the style (though you can tell the difference). A fun read! I think there’s at least 4-5 books out in french now.

Same for W.I.T.C.H.: Barbucci and Canepa made the first stories than left to work on Sky Doll. Still awaiting the third book :there’s the 2B edition of the third book out, all pencils and layouts. A beauty!

    Love these artists :D

I’ve been a longtime lurker to this website and I really wanna thank you for finding all these wonderful illustrators! The comic looks amazing and does indeed make me wanna give up drawing, but then, I quickly rebound and am inspired to push myself even harder. Totally reminds me of the illustration work with the Gorillaz.
