Classic Mickey Mouse comic strips

Floyd Gottfredson is to Mickey Mouse as Carl Barks is to Donald Duck. Over at Clark Snyder’s Inspiration Grab Bag he’s generously posted a full storyline from Gottfredson’s Mickey Mouse comic strip from 1935. The story comprises over 100 individual strips. It’s great fun, the artwork is beautiful, and I’ve always liked Mickey on the comics page more than I do on the silver screen because in the comics he has some personality and some attitude.

  • Adam

Check out the vintage Mickey DVD set, he’s got plenty of spunk therein. Like when he plays a pig’s teats as a musical instrument.

True, he used to have some spunk. Colour ruined Mickey.

Not to take anything away from Floyd but I always felt like there was a second mouse artist that was equally talented and defining in the character: Paul Murry. He did all those wonderful comic book stories about Mickey and Goofy for Western Publishing and was a contemporary of Carl Barks. His best work was the adventure stories sometimes published in episodes in Walt Disney’s Comics and Stories. I think Gemstone is republishing them today. Worth checking out, too.
