Although it was launched several weeks ago, I didn’t post about ComicSpace yet. This was due partly to the site’s “friends” feature not being truly usable yet. Like MySpace, but exclusively for comics creators, ComicSpace originally required that contact lists be exclusively mutual — I could not add a user to my contacts list, without them also adding me to theirs. This results in massive friends lists, that, like on MySpace, seem utterly pointless. No one really has hundreds upon hundreds on friends.
But ComicSpace’s Josh Roberts has recently upgraded the site so the friends list feature no longer forces you to add someone as a friend just because they’ve added you as a contact. This differentiation between “friend” and “fan” is important, and it’s where MySpace totally fails.
The next step to making ComicSpace truly usable is the ability to host your own comics there, which so far, is still in the works. It’s also already miles better than MySpace by virtue of not being absolutely hideous.
