Danny Zabbal

There is something wistful and Clowesian about Danny Zabbal’s Flickr series of obsolete superheroes. Take, Thunder Bear, for instance. Or Sean, the last Space Bird. Zabbal is also the author of the Web comic, Journey in the Sixth Dimension.

These are just lovely. There’s a real sadness to a lot of them. I don’t wear tights (much) but can relate to these superheroes. Great work.

Ha, Jack Dylan has a very similar run of posters for his POP Montreal series. Not accusing anybody of copying but they do have a very similar feel. i like Jack Dylan’s stuff a bit more because you get to see wonder woman, spider man etc on their “off-camera” moments. Spider-man eating a banana and reading the paper atop a construction crane for example. Danny’s stuff is very nice too.
