Dave Cooper step-by-step

One of my favourite artists, Dave Cooper, has posted a very, very cool step-by-step guide to the creation of one of his paintings for an upcoming Juxtapoz group show. He has posted each step as a photo in a Flickr photoset filled with notes and insightful information: “Untitled” In Progress.

He also has a photoset of some of his favourite “art nerd things” which include some shots of his studio, and a totally wacky ‘horizontable’.

Nothing like witnessing the step by step process of such a talented (and witty) artist. Thanks.

I went to that show last night and this was def… one of the best peices in the first half…. It was cool to see the step process and then get to see the real painting…. digital images do not give art at that level of detail any justice….

Dave Cooper is a super talented artist. The painting process described is very detailed and precise. I’m very impressed ¿How to get that “Epidiascope” monster? I want it!

Dang, that’s purdy! I draw all the time, but I am just recently picking up my paintbrushes again to see what I can do with color. It is great to see someone like Dave’s Cooper’s painting process broken down into its various steps.

I think a lot of the time, artists get protective of their process, so nobody can “steal” it. Which is silly, since we all borrow from everyone else all the time. I feel like I appreciate an artist’s work more once I understand what he went through to make it.

Kudos to Cooper for puting this out there, and many thanks to Johnny for finding it and linking!
