de Sève is de Bomb

I’m surprised that we haven’t mentioned Peter de Sève here yet, so I’m glad that Pierre wrote in to remind us. Peter’s instantly recognizable style should be familiar to readers of the New Yorker, and several of his covers for the NYer are shown on his site’s portfolio section.

    I loved this Batman piece, from Entertainment Weekly I think. In college we were to attempt an illustration in the style of a pro and I chose de Sève. It weren’t pretty. Well, it was a little pretty, but it was no de Sève!

    Check out Peter’s great cover of the newest issue of the New Yorker “Beach bums”. Futher to his phenomenal illustrations, Peter de Seve’s style is evident in the movie Ice Age, as he was only character designer for the all characters.

    In college we were to attempt an illustration in the style of a pro and I chose de Sève.

    Same here. Mine sucked, but I got a good mark for it. His method is nuts. It’s fully documented in an issue of Step by Step Graphics from ’94.
