DiTerlizzi is the Shizzy

tonyTony DiTerlizzi has a new site that is fun as trampolines to visit. I love this stuff, and Tony’s success (Caldecott, anyone?) supports my theory that the ‘lowbrow’ art of the moment, where talent grows quietly like mushrooms in an unvisited cellar, is Gaming Art. Will we reflect favorably on one of the few thriving arenas for subjective painted illustration in the future the way we all look back now on vintage comics as true pop art? Or the way mid century paperback art is revered today? Probably not. But Tony started illustrating for Dungeons and Dragons, so there.

You know I’ve loved Tonys stuff ever since I first saw his art in the D&D 2nd Edition Planescape box sets and for that matter most of the Planescape books there after. I collected those as much for his art as I did the content =) Glad to see him getting a post!

YES!! Tony D’s work is fantastic. “The Spiderwick Chronicles” is an instant classic to me. He’s definitely an influence. I spend a lot of time on his website. ;o) I need to track down his other projects. They look great. The Moonpie one … all of ‘em.

    Go Diterlizzi!!!

I really love that atmospheric little vid and the overall design and illustration is kickin’, but I’m not too keen on the artist yakking away in the corner. Kind of obnoxious.

Oh yeah, sites that “open in a new window” are sooooo 2002.

Ha! Yeah, it’s funny at first, but when he keeps coming up, it gets a little annoying. But, points for the idea! And, you can turn it off, I believe.
