Douglass Turner & Photofront

This is cool on two fronts.

One: Check out Douglass Turner’s (Lexington, MA) sweet computer illustrations (which you can also download as animated — though silent — podcasts). His work looks great whether it’s moving or not. You can also download his art onto your mobile.

Two: How Douglass’ portfolio is delivered is just as sweet. His Flickr account is fed through to his Photofront page. It’s a pretty cool way to display a portfolio of your work, depending on your needs. I created one to test it out, and it took less than two minutes. For an extra $10, you get the ad-free version. It’s pretty cool, but I must admit it’s a tad slow (as was a WordPress plugin out there, which similarly, yet sluggishly, feeds your Flickr photos/illos into galleries on your blog), and having the thumbnails/navigation at the bottom of the page probably isn’t the best idea (you don’t realize it’s there till you scroll down), but overall, it’s still pretty cool.

Now, back to my hovel. Deadlines loom.

Wow… Photofront looks pretty great, but I agree that it’s not quite perfect yet. I love the subtle bounce the images make between transitions.

I like this much much. I’ve always had a thing for contours.

Photofront or not you still can’t view any Flickr content behind most corporate firewalls (Blocked Category: Personal Network Storage and Backup
). I was really hoping this would work.

number of times you used the phrase “pretty cool” in one paragraph: 3

just felt the need to point that out. (if it was my art being reviewed, i’d hope for something a little more descriptive)

    :P

    to observer:
I think it’s PRETTY COOL that you felt the need to criticize anonymously after your obsessive counting.

    Speaking of counting…

I downloaded the podcasts (which are, indeed, pretty cool – thanks, Douglass Turner and Drawn!) and noticed that if I make an itunes playlist and drag-n-drop about 112-115 or so of the individual podcasts into it, it makes up a full hour of lovely psychedelic colour-ness to play while you’re listening to music.

    Just sayin’. :)

Very cool indeed! I made my own test of photofront to display my digital drawings too!

And it turns out that you CAN embed it in your site after all, once you do pay the $10. But, as mentioned above by Keith, many corporate firewalls block Flickr, so if you’re going to use it for professional purposes, you’re kinda screwed. And that ain’t pretty cool.

Too bad about the firewalls, however Douglass’s quality portfolio and commitment to his media may be showcased here to friends and interested parties without the clutter of the flickr interface. It is a positive move, the transitions work extremely well with his style and the sense of flow is a vital
component to the effect of his work!
