Eat My Shorts, Writer Dudes

The Simpsons have had authors as guest voices in the past, but not four powerhouse literary dudes like Jonathan Franzen, Michael Chabon, Tom Wolfe and Gore Vidal, I’m sure. Stay tuned for an episode next year with these literary guys as cartoons. Apparently there will be a scene where Chabon and Franzen brawl during a dispute about their literary influences. Now what a crazy idea! Who would have ever thought of that?

Vidal, (who has never seen the show) says that he “can’t wait” to see the episode and that transforming into a yellow-skinned character is a return of sorts: “After all, I had jaundice as a kid.”

Thanks to Scott over at Conversational Reading for the link!

I could have sworn Tom Wolfe was already a guest star on the Simpsons… but I’m probably just half-remembering him being lampooned.

You stand gently corrected. They had an episode with Amy Tan, John Updike, Toni Morrison, and Steven King. (synopsis here:http://www.snpp.com/episodes/BABF17)
And Thomas Pynchon has been on a couple of episodes.
And the poet laureate too, old what’s his name.

Tom Clancy was on one, unwittingly offering praise for Marge’s soapy novel that she wrote. This one sounds good, tho’. Chabon’s aresome.
