Fintan Taite

dunbar-land-greed.jpg

Just when I’m thinking we could use more Irish representation, Fintan Taite comes along with this knock-out portfolio. His editorial work is a combination of some great retro linework and a sort of updated Ralph Steadman Ronald Searle energy.

If you’re curious about what else is happening on the Emerald Isle, Taite is also chairman of the Illustrators Guild of Ireland; which is a great resource for portfolios and art events around the country.

I would have said the influence was more directly from Ronald Searle than via Ralph Steadman. But, you know, no bad thing either way.

I was about to leave the same comment – looks like Ronald Searle to me with the scratchy lines and the shapes of the characters. Nice inkin’ though!

My bad. Definitely more of a Ronald Searle thing… I’ll change it.

Hi guys, Thanks for the comments.. even to be mentioned in the same line as two untouchable illustration gods as Searle or Steadman is fine by me.

I’d say I’ve been influenced by both and many more pen and ink Illustrators I could mention..with a bit of my animation training thrown in for good measure!

When I first saw the site I thought of Arnold Roth. Many of the illutrations wouldn’t look out of place on the pages of Punch.
