Simple, and brilliant, Yann Benedi’s Army, the first in a series of animated shorts about giants, is beautiful to look at, and showcases what great sound design can do to add emotion and atmosphere to a film. I look forward to future episodes.
it didn't exceed my attention span and it is very clever in design and sound effects

awesome. again proof of how important sound is for animation. the sound design here is especially great. I love the giant's more heavy sound. anyone any idea how that effect can be achieved ?

I did the sound for this. The sounds for the giant were created by “playing” a horn. The horn (and other low range Brass Instruments like the tuba) are usually associated with big things (think: elephants) One reason for this is that low frequencies and long decays suggest a big sound source, whereas high frequencies and shorter sounds are caused by tiny things. Thats why i used high pitched percussive sounds (xylophone, vibraphone) for the little humans. So its very much about the contrast between the two, underlining the different scales that were used for the characters.
Cheers, David
