Watch: Git Gob by Phillip Eddolls

I love this absurd little, one-minute animated film by Phillip Eddols.

In this animated short, two creatures wonder, “What is a hole?” They have different points of view. Their debate leads to an idea, an idea that changes the world.

Read on for a short Q&A with the Eddolls himself…

Settle the score: Tennis ball or planet?

Basket ball. Covered in really expensive felt.

Um.. Is that you doing the noises?

Yep I recorded all those voices into a toilet paper tube. And then edited the dialogue tracks, before arrival in Montreal. I didn’t know if we would keep it, but it was liked, so it stayed.

What’s going on now?

Making stuff.

Long answer: Working on another film. It takes advantage of physical effects, so that the physical effects auto animate some element for you.

Example: constantly blowing wind, and a really hairy creatures. The wind would constantly comb the hair in the same direction, and as such keeps it coherent as the creature moves.

It a fact.

ITS A FACT, I threw a puppet up at the metal ceiling of the studio and it stuck there. The puppets feet contain super strong neodymium magnets. And I never got it down, maybe its still there. ITS A FACT

Brilliant! The voices are inspired. They remind me a little of voices on The Clangers. http://www.clangers.co.uk/ I wonder if the late great Oliver Postgate used toilet rolls too.

Phil, not only is it still there, but it looks down quizzically at you when you walk in. Must add rig to release sound cue upon door opening…
