This is really fun stuff! And on one of the images in the illustration section, you can slide a magnifying glass over the picture to see better detail…nice touch, especially for that specific illustration.

What a great site. Reminds me of reading Cracked and Mad magazines as a kid. Wonderful art, too. It’s nice to see someone who’ll put that amount of work and care into gag pieces.

Not only is Wartella’s art “kraziee”, but supposedly he is too. There are stories here in New York about his antics, one involves Mike being locked in the trunk of Tony Millionaire’s car and being driven around Manhattan late one night. ;>

Excellent work. Wartella is one of those artists whose work you will remember. I am thrilled to see more people discovering the talents of this awesomely talented cartoonist.

[...] The previously blogged graphic upstarts Aaron Augenblick and M. Wartella are up to some animated shenanigans over at Comedy Central. Golden Age is a documentary series examining the lives of some of the most beloved characters in animation history. The Lancaster Loon story is particulary touching. Did you know he was Canadian? Yeah. Mike is crazy. Fun. But crazy. I knew him well when we were students at U.Va. — the stories are not safe for the a public forum — he also was in one of the best damn punk bands to come out of Charlottesville in the mid-1990s. If illustration hadn’t worked out. He could have been a singer.

(As for the name, it has some internally meaning in his mind. It’s basically intentionally unpronounceable. Also, his work used to appear in the SF Weekly as well, and he’s done some covers for NY Press.)
