He apparently was quite the character and used to hide pictures of naked ladies in crowd scenes. Many of the interior drawings still reflect what our interior look like. It's a weird gag and it always seemed out of place, so I'm glad Schulz eventually dropped it wholesale. I'll see if I can find dates. Those Complete Peanuts collections are beautiful annotated ...
