I’m looking forward to the new Gorilaz album, Plastic Beach. More than the music, I’m looking forward to the animation and visuals that Jamie Hewlett will bestow on us. This trailer for the album certainly whets the appetite.

the look of it is very cool, can't wait to see what they do with it

Seems like quite a different stylistic tack for this album – more deliberately retro in technique than ever before. I've long thought Mr Hewlett could do no wrong, but everything I've seen for the new album so far (the title graphics, the website) has left me a little cold.

The diving boards are intriguing, as are the final shots below the surface. Cool stuff.

Check out the official Gorillaz Youtube channel. It has several teasers for the new album and they all look amazing. I can’t wait for the release day! http://www.youtube.com/gorillaz

me gusta pero sigue estando como— sin ganas. I used to love 'im!

It's nice, but I would have liked to have seen some of the characters-I guess they want people left hanging :)
Also hope they stick to 2D animation!

This seems very reminiscent of the start to Nitendo 64's Donkey Kong game … However, I haven't seen it in quite some time, but that's what I thought of immediately. The DK game even has a ship that circles around the island and an underwater shot. Anyone else remember it? Are the similarities intentional?

3 plus minutes of a flying camera around a single set? Boring…
The charm of gorillaz came from the characters and the intelligent use of limited 2d animation. I don't care about 2d versus 3d, but c'mon! Where's the band???

Yes Yes, exactly what I thought, DK64 main world looks alot like this and also banjo kazooie 2nd level is very similar. This looks amazing but what is it? can not be cgi, looks like a stop-mo model.

At first I thought they were turrets!

Interesting: All the materials and surfaces of the island in the trailer above look like someone spent a lot of time replicating the tactile feel of some classic miniature-modelmaking surfaces in CG. I'm sure that they first build the island as an actual miniature and the rebuild it in CG to give it an extra retro vibe.. Some of the other trailers on the YOUTUBE-channel suggest the same: Two or three aren't CG at all, they're actual miniatures. Like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nz21vRML8iE

the music sounds exactly like something Phillip Glass would write, and the graphics looked like some silly touched-up slow-mo footage of an amateur clay model.
That being said, I'm still totally excited for a new Gorillaz album!!!
