I’d say this stuff is a little more expressionistic than Rackham’s, at least the best of it, though I can see what you mean in the more idealized stuff, but then I also see a little pre-raphaelite in there too.

This seems to be his most compelling work though–I’m considerably less interested in the Heidi stuff and it’s like.

Thank you very much for this particular link. It led to a treasure trove of fantasic, classic illustration. I’ve seen a few of Tenggren’s paintings in the past but never so many! They are inspiring.
