Germany’s Heiko Müller’s oil paintings are hard to look away from. his work has a touch of that “painted creepy/cute” look, but it feels a lot more mature and well-planned than most. Check out his website for more. (Your browser may block this popup window with info on the show he’s part of next weekend in Hamburg: “Don’t Wake Daddy”).
Here’s how he describes his current work on his MySpace page:
Currently I am exploring the merging points between religious icon art, renaissance painting and comic culture. I am particularly thrilled by the kind of spiritual terror you find expressed in the paintings of the old Flemish masters, and I’m trying to find out what happens when you apply that mood to the serene and harmless world of rural folk art.
